Sigiriya is located in the town of dabulla in the matale district of Sri Lanka This beautiful place is said to have been built by king kasyapa in the 5th century AD. History sources say that sigiriya was the palace of that king at that time. At that time the palace was named Sigiriya because the entrance to the palace consisted of a lion's head and a pair of legs. Story
King kasyapa Ascended the throne after assassinating his father. This Sigirya is the palace of king kasyapa 1. In ancient times, Sigiriya was known as "Alakamandawa" Sigiriya can be describe as an ancient Fortress/palace .This Sigiriya rock is about 200 meters (600 feet) high. The size is about 3.5 acres. At that time ,the palace was built in such a way as not to damage the naturalness of the top of the rock. Sigiriya is a UNESCO world Heritage site and is a place of historical and archaeological significance Sigiriya rock is a very large granite rock .In the 5th century AD king kasyapa build his palace on top of this Sigiriya rock one the main reasons for this Sigiriya rock has good protection because is has a large view an all sides .Ruins of technology, architecture, engineering and art can still be seen at Sigiriya palace. Locals and foreign tourists visiting Sigiriya spend more time viewing the sigiriya murals. almost all these Sigiri murals are female semi nude paintings. The paintings of these women with open upper bodies are considered to be the painting of the queens of the king kasyapa in the 5th century AD. These Sigiriya murals are painted on a stone bark. Tourists have a special fondness for these paintings. The way the water carried to the top of the Sigiriya rock is amazing .The technology used to do this also praised by modern engineers. There is an ancient water garden near the Sigiriya rock the fountains in that water park are still active during the rainy season .People who visited the palace of Sigiriya during the reign of the king at that time can still see the songs and poems written on the walls of Sigiriya.
