Prior to independence on February 4,1948,Sri Lanka was under three imperialist regimes. Before those regimes ,that is before 1505, Sri Lanka was an independence state. But first in 1505 the Portuguese were able to bring Sri Lanka under their domination and make it a colony. That colonial rule lasted 153 years. After the end of Portuguese rule, in 1658, The Dutch made Sri Lanka their colony. with the end of Dutch rule, The British captured the coast of Sri Lanka in 1798.The British did not stop there and in 1815 managed to make the whole island a British colony. The British ruled Sri Lanka for 133 years. This Galle fort was first built during the Portuguese rule the construction of this Galle fort was completed in 1588.The Galle fort was used for the protection of the Portuguese. After defeating the Portuguese and capturing the Galle fort the Dutch rebuild the fort in the 17th century .The Galle fort was built using granite stones and coral. At that time the Dutch also built a city in this gall fort. At that time the Galle fort was used by the Dutch for security, trade and shipping. The present day gall fort is believed to be around 433 years old. Galle Dutch fort is one of the 13 most beautiful cities in Asia. Due to its historical significance, the Galle Dutch fort has been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. The clock tower in Galle fort was erected in 1883 in honor of doctor peter daniel anthony. Who lived during the British rule. This clock tower is one of the oldest clock towers in Sri Lanka. Building built by the imperialists can still be seen today. Among them are the church, the clock tower ,the harbor and the fort. the beautiful beach of Galle fort is another place of tourist attraction. Due to its beautiful environment and historical significance, a larger number of local and foreign tourists this Galle fort
