The ancient man skeleton found at balangoda bears witness to civilization that existed in Sri Lanka 30,000 years ago but Sri Lanka has a mush longer history. The Colombo national museum is a great place for foreign tourists to get a glimpse of Sri Lanka's history and culture heritage .It is a place where important things of Sri Lanka are stored. With the coming to power of governor William Gregory in 1872,the need for a museum arose in Sri Lanka. As a result, construction of the museum began and was completed in 1876.This museum was opened to the public on January 1,1877.The museum is designed in the style of Italian architecture. The architect who contributed to the construction of this museum is Mr.JP Smider. This museum is currently the national museum of Sri Lanka. This Colombo national museum is the main and largest museum in Sri Lanka. This building was built for a museum. A monument to governor William Gregory has been erected near the entrance to the museum in honor of the governor. This Colombo national museum consists of 15 sections. The present superintendent of this museum is Mr.Ranjith Hewage. Tickerts are also required to visit the museum and the opening hours of the museum are given below
