This Sinharaja forest is spread in both the Sabaragamuwa province and the southern province of Sri Lanka. This Sinharaja forest is the 4th largest forest in Sri Lanka. This forest is the national park  in Sri Lanka and spreads over an area of 11250 hectares. This forest is a UNESCO world heritage site and biosphere reserve.  This Sinharaja forest has endemic animals as well as endemic plants. This Sinharaja rain forest has a very beautiful environment.

This sinharaja forest is located in the middle of the three district of Sri Lanka namely galle district, Rathnapura district and mathara district. This Sinharaja forest is the 4th largest forest in Sri Lanka, is spread over an area of 11250 of hectares. There are three access roads to visit this Sinharaja forest and they are given below

  • Rathnapura kalawana road-Kudawa(main entrance)
  • Deniyaya-Pitadeniyaya
  • Suriyakanda-Morning side
This Sinharaja forest is a tropical wet evergreen forest. This forest is a very large natural, biologically valuable forest. Therefore, in 1607 it was declared a biosphere reserve and in 1988 it was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. This Sinharaja forest is a marvel resources such as mountains, slopes, plateaus, rivers and waterfalls. This environment of sinharaja forest is very beautiful. Sinharaja forest is the only natural rain forest in Sri Lanka. This forest receives very good ranges from 3000mm-6000mm. This forest is a high water catchment area. several waterways start from the sinharaja forest. among them "ghing" river and "kudawa" river  take a special place. In addition to these rivers, several waterfalls can be seen in the sinharaja forest. these are "pathanoya" waterfall,"kakuna" waterfall and "duli" waterfall. also, high biodiversity can be seen in the Sinharaja forest. Animals endemic to Sri Lanka as well as the Sinharaja forest can be seen in the forest. Butterfly species, Lizard species,"Rathumal koha","Bata atikukula","Sri Lankan kahibella" are the main animals. In addition, the giant "meewana" can be seen as an endemic plant of Sinharaja forest. Plant stratification can be clearly seen in Sinharaja forest. Also,many animals can be seen in the Sinharaja forest. Below are some of those animals.
